You can look around sex shops and find a few toys that can be used in BDSM play, but the best area that I have found to find good quality gear and lots of variety is the stretch of Oxford Street in Darlinghurst between South Dowling Street and Hyde Park. When you wander along this part of Oxford Street don't just look at the ground floor windows. A number of places don't have a ground floor presence so you have to climb some stairs to find them.

Spankoz Australia is a "One Stop Shop" for anything related to spanking and advice is free!

Karnal Leather hand-make and sell leather clothing and fetish gear, including toys. The proprietors are active members of Sydney Leather Pride and the Leather Dyke scene in Sydney. They are located in Darlinghurst. Check out their website for their on-line catalogue.

Radical Leather is Sydney's premier B&D - S&M Leather craftsmanship quality manufacturer, specializing in made to order adult items. Radical Leather was started in 1984 as Jayar Leather and had a name change in the early 90's to Radical Leather. Radical Leather has always supported the leather individual as well as the community and our standing in that community bears witness to this.

The Tool Shed (two stores along the Oxford Street stretch) resells a small selection of Sax Leather's gear plus they sell lots of normal "sex shop" stuff like vibrators, magazines, videos, etc. The House of Fetish , for fine fetish clothing, is also a good stop.

The Bookshop is mainly a place for gay and lesbian literature, but they do sell books like The Story Of O and The Marketplace Trilogy, and they have a shelf down the back wth a good selection of S&M literature. Check out this review.

The Piercing Urge has a good reputation and is nearby (in Bourke Street) if having any part of your body pierced is part of what turns you on.

There are plenty of other shops in the area. Take your time, look in all the windows and explore. If you are in or around Newtown you might want to have a look at The Wild One , Amera's Palace or Gallery Serpentine for fetish clothing.

There are a number of newspapers and/or magazines around Sydney that can be useful places to look to find BDSM establishments or professionals, or classified or personal ads.

Sydney Fetish Times is the "rag" most closely aligned with the BDSM/fetish scene in Sydney. New issues "come out" bi-monthly and contains articles, reviews and info about what's happening in Sydney. It's free and is available at kink-friendly locales.

Naughty Sydney and Sydney After Dark are both weekly newspapers (look for them in newsagents, particularly around Oxford Street and Kings Cross) oriented towards the more "sexual" (particularly hetero) life in Sydney. Check them out for personal ads, classifieds (including Mistresses), articles and reviews. Last time I looked they were $2.00 per issue.

Sydney Star Observer is a weekly newspaper for the gay and lesbian community... and it is a community newspaper. Useful for resources for the gay and lesbian community and it is fetsh/BDSM-friendly. It is free and you can usually find copies in gay and lesbian establishments and most places along Oxford Street.
